چکیده
Malaria is a global life aggressive disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite to host after infected anopheles mosquito leading release of free radicals which have capacity induce oxidative stress. This study was carried out assess effect malaria (Plasmodium falciparum) on some antioxidants (vitamins A, C, E and reduced glutathione) lipid peroxidation marker (MDA) in children attending Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria.

Antioxidant vitamin levels among preschool children with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Sokoto, Nigeria
OBJECTIVE To assess antioxidant vitamin levels among preschool children with plasmodium malarial infection. METHODS We assessed antioxidant vitamin levels by using a standard procedure in 130 malaria-parasitized preschool children. Packed cell volume and parasite density were also evaluated. Forty healthy age- and gender-matched nonparasitized children were included as controls. RESULTS Pla...
متن کاملThe Use of Crude Plasmodium falciparum Antigens for Comparison of Antibody Responses in Patients with Mild Malaria vs. Cerebral Malaria
Background: Cerebral malaria (CM) is one of the major causes of death in African populations infected with Plasmodium falciparum. Only 1% of infected subjects develop CM. The reasons for these differences are not fully understood, but it is likely that the host humoral response against blood-stage antigens plays a role in protection from malaria, although the precise targets and mechanisms medi...
متن کاملSuppression of RANTES in children with Plasmodium falciparum malaria.
Severe malarial anemia (MA) is the primary manifestation of severe malaria among children in areas of holoendemic Plasmodium falciparum transmission. Although overproduction of inflammatory-derived cytokines are implicated in the immunopathogenesis of severe MA, chemokines such as regulated on activation, normal T-cell expressed and secreted (RANTES, CCL5) are largely unexplored in childhood ma...

DESIGN A prospective cross-sectional study. متن کاملPoint-of-admission hypoglycaemia among under-five Nigerian children with plasmodium falciparum malaria: prevalence and risk factors
Abstract Background: Hypoglycaemia is a well recognized complication of falciparum malaria in children but its diagnosis may be overlooked because all the clinical features may be mimicked by severe malaria. To determine the prevalence of hypoglycaemia at the point of hospital admission of under-fives with falciparum malaria and identify its risk factors in patients seen in a Nigerian...
